About Us

“Filipino migrants are agents of global change.”
– Mina Roces
Professor of History, University of New South Wales

Recognising the BRAVE AND THE COURAGEOUS. Being an immigrant means moving out from your comfort zone and brave the foreign land in pursuit of a better future. This is a feat triumphed by 310,050 Filipinos who chose to migrate and live in Australia.

In the year 2000, the AWARDS was founded by the former Philippine Ambassador to Australia, Her Excellency Delia Domingo-Albert. It was then called the Queensland Filipino Women’s Achievement Award (QFWAA), exclusively for women.

The event is held every 5 years, however in 2023, to be more inclusive and to pay recognition to ALL outstanding Filipinos in Queensland, QFWAA became the Queensland Filipino Excellence Awards. QFEA aims to advance the Queensland Filipino community and to celebrate distinct Filipino traits of compassion, industry, perseverance, resilience and community spirit. It applauds Filipinos who leave a mark in their chosen fields and proudly represents the country.

In its 23rd year, QFEA officially became an organisation, aiming to create programs and events to
continually uphold its mission of uplifting the Filipino community by showcasing and recognising
innovators, positive change-makers, and success stories of Filipinos in Queensland.
